[Last verified 27 May 2026]. Methodology
Wholesale ZAR figures convert the Rapaport (RapNet) and Idex per-carat USD tape at the SARB daily mid-rate ZAR/USD across the data month (May 2026 mid R18.50, band R18.42 to R18.61). Retail figures come from anonymous walk-in observations across Sandton City, V&A Waterfront, Pretoria Brooklyn Mall, and Durban Gateway with a constant brief.
The 2019 to 2026 historical series uses annual average Rapaport + Idex lab-grown reports converted at the SARB monthly average ZAR/USD for that year.
